Ok to store Hard Drive in a Ziplock bag?

It would be stored for prolonged periods of time. Afraid of floods and such.

You would probably damage the electronics with ESD. You might check Radio Shack they might have some Static Bags that have zip top.

Buy an anti static hard drive bag, put the drive in it, and put that into a ziploc bag with some silica gel (get it out of prescription bottles etcetera.

So your house floods, huh?

As others have said, anti-static is really the way to go.

If I were to guess, you could probably use a paper envelope or something that won’t carry a charge to seal it in first and then place it in a zip lock bag with an anti-desiccation pack.

Still, safest thing is the anti-static bag,….

That's a coated paper (coated in the factory!) -- regular paper used for envelope is different.

In any case, you can use a ziploc bag, and if you want to extra careful, just wrap the drive with aluminium foil first before puitting it into the bag.

How in the hell is a piece of metal like aluminum foil going to keep a charge from getting to the PC board? Last time I checked aluminum was a conductor.

Then again the stuff I work on cost a little more than a hard drive.

If I done either of your suggestions I would fail ISO and would probably lose my job for improper storage. How in the hell is a piece of metal like aluminum foil going to keep a charge from getting to the PC board? It will hardly break the bank and better safe then sorry. I usually save the bags from my purchases though so I typically have a few extra laying around. An advisable practice IMO.

Dude, ziplock bags so they could be waterproof. Not for being cheap.

Whatever your motives, using an anti-static bag first, before placing in a ziplock bag, is advisable. An anti-desiccation pack is also advisable.

Yeah, your right because desiccation means the absence of moisture

4 Main Things to Consider Before Choosing Cleanroom Bags

If you run a company in the industry that produces medical equipment, optical devices, electronics, vehicle sensitive parts like sensors, and similar products that must be produced in a highly controlled environment, you need cleanroom bags. The primary purpose of cleanroom bags is to store and transport items (surgical gloves, caps, dental tools, sensitive medical and biopharma equipment, sound cards, computer components, etc.) safely in and out of cleanrooms without the risk of potential contamination.

You must be aware of the importance of clean room packaging quality, as it may directly impact your success or failure. That said, you need a reliable, cleanroom bag supplier that maintains the highest level of traceability and conformance to meet your cleanroom packaging specifications.

Both medical equipment and computer components require clean room packaging with low bioburden levels and the ability to restrict airborne particles. The reason is simple &#; airborne particles and microorganisms may significantly affect them if not adequately protected.

Cleanroom bags come in different shapes and materials, and each of them is intended for a different purpose. If you are unsure which one is the right for you, let us lead you through the 4 critical factors worth considering before opting for a particular item.
