Therefore, when using a perforated plate, for instance, one with 3mm holes and 40% open area, the resulting open area ratio of the T-Type strainer basket is merely 40% of 250%, which equals the pipe bore area. Consequently, as the strainer begins to accumulate blockages, the open area decreases below the inlet area, leading to a rapid increase in pressure loss.

The situation becomes even more complex if the basket is lined with a mesh, as the mesh further reduces the basket's open area. For instance, combining a 10mm Square Hole Perforated Plate with 70% open area to support an 80 mesh wirecloth with 34% open area results in an open area percentage of the basket at only 23.8%. This leaves a reduced open area ratio of the basket compared to the pipe bore, and there's a significant pressure loss even before the basket becomes significantly blocked. Consequently, there is limited open filter area available to retain solid particles.

For permanent applications that require fine filtration, such as 80 mesh, it is advisable to consider the use of vertical basket filters. These filters typically provide the necessary filter area, with a standard open area of 200%, and they offer a substantial dirt holding capacity that ensures satisfactory performance in service.

In all cases involving T-Type strainers, it is crucial to monitor the pressure loss, ensuring it does not exceed 1.0 Bar in a dirty state. Excessive pressure can place undue stress on the basket, potentially leading to failure. Additionally, it's recommended to replace the baskets annually to prevent fatigue-related damage and subsequent basket failure. If a basket shows no signs of fatigue damage after a thorough inspection at the one-year mark, it may be operated for up to two years. However, it must be replaced after every two years of continuous operation without exception.

For permanent applications, our strong recommendation is to opt for vertical basket filters. These filters not only provide a filter open area of at least 200% as standard but also reduce the forces applied to the baskets during operation, minimizing the risk of failure.
