The Importance of Low-Level Laser Therapy in ...

Low-level laser therapy reduces inflammation, improves microcirculation and promotes tissue repair.1 This makes it an exceptional tool for helping the body to heal itself. Healthcare professionals have done extensive research into the ways that LLLT works to promote heart health and combat heart disease, and the results make a compelling case for the use of LLLT in the treatment of life-threatening cardiac conditions.

When you consider that 225 South Africans are killed by heart diseases every day, 2 it&#;s clear that high-quality medical support for overall heart health is essential.

LLLT has been shown to provide relief to patients suffering from angina, coronary artery disease, hypertension, heart attack, stroke and other conditions affecting the heart.3

Dr Bernard Brom, an integrative doctor with over 40 years of experience working with lasers, shares his experience with LLLT and cardiovascular healing:4

&#;When I was in Russia, they took me to a local cardiology department where the professor had been using LLL for many years&#; He showed me some reversal of coronary artery narrowing. In Russia, many departments throughout the hospital were using and experimenting with LLL.

There is good evidence that LLL can influence nitric oxide metabolism among other cardiovascular benefits such as mitochondrial support, anti-inflammatory effects and stem cell activation.

LLL is used in Russia and Ukraine as part of the management of ischemic heart disease to reduce the risk of acute myocardial infarction. According to one author, 70% of patients experienced a positive benefit.5 Treatment is daily or on alternative days with an exposure time of 10-60 minutes for between 6 and 10 sessions. The area of irradiation is centred over the lower sternum and upwards.&#;

POST-OPERATIVE HEART HEALTH BENEFITS OF LLLT

Research shows that using LLLT after major heart surgery, such as Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) surgery, can speed up the repair of the cardiac tissue and reduce cardiac cellular damage.6 This means a faster and smoother recovery process for patients.6

CARDIOLOGY 2:

  • Myocardial infarction: Heart attack
  • Arrythmia: Irregular heartbeat
  • Valvular disease: Weakness, damage or disease in the valves of the heart
  • Endocarditis: Inflammation of the inner lining of the heart
  • Myocarditis: Inflammation of the heart muscle

UNIVERSAL 2 (HEART) can be used to treat major cardiac conditions:

  • Weak heart
  • Insufficient coronary blood flow
  • Atherosclerosis (build-up of plaque in the arteries)

UNIVERSAL 7 (NERVOUS SYSTEM) is also helpful for a weak heart and UNIVERSAL 3 (BLOOD) improves circulation, which promotes heart health.

NOTE: coMra is a powerful modality. The uses described above are those recommended by the coMra User Guide. Experience over 10 years has shown that in the case of most chronic conditions, treatments can also be spread out to once or twice per week, without taking the breaks outlined in the guide.

Laser therapy in cardiovascular disease

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death worldwide. It is broadly defined to include anything which adversely affects the heart or blood vessels. One-third of Americans have one or more forms of it. By one estimate, average human life expectancy would increase by seven years if it were eliminated. The mainstream medical model seeks mostly to "manage" cardiovascular disease with pharmaceuticals or to surgically bypass or reopen blocked vessels via angioplasty. These methods have proven highly useful and saved countless lives. Yet drug therapy may be costly and ongoing, and it carries the risk of side effects while often doing little or nothing to improve underlying health concerns. Similarly, angioplasty or surgery are invasive methods which entail risk. Laser therapy1 regenerates tissue, stimulates biological function, reduces inflammation and alleviates pain. Its efficacy and safety have been increasingly well documented in cardiovascular disease of many kinds. In this article we will explore the effects of laser therapy in angina, atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, myocardial infarction, stroke and other conditions. The clinical application of various methods of laser therapy, including laserpuncture and transcutaneous, supravascular and intravenous irradiation of blood will be discussed. Implementing laser therapy in the treatment of cardiovascular disease offers the possibility of increasing the health and wellbeing of patients while reducing the costs and enhancing safety of medical care.
