Why water based inks provide higher definition printing ...

Why water based inks provide higher definition printing than solvent based inks?

If you are looking for more details, kindly visit our website.

When water based inks are used in an ink jet printer, the result is a higher definition image.
A drop of solvent based ink is composed of 35% pigment and 65% apolar solvents.
A drop of water based ink, on the other hand, is composed of 33% pigment, 33% water and 33% non-toxic, water soluble polar solvents.

The advantage is obtained during printing.

SOLVENT BASED INK

  1. The drop rests on the surface of the substrate.
  2. The apolar solvent is only partly absorbed by the porosity of the substrate.
  3. The remaining solvent, which is not water soluble, remains on the surface
  4. The low surface tension of the solvent causes the drop to expand and distribute its pigment over a larger area than its nominal size, thus overlapping with other areas

WATER BASED INK

  1. The drop rests on the surface of the substrate.
  2. The water is immediately absorbed by the capillary structure of the surface
  3. The water soluble polar solvents are quickly absorbed by the capillary structure of the surface thanks to the residual humidity of the substrate (4/5%).
  4. The pigment remains exactly where the print head deposited it, and does not overlap with other areas

IN CONCLUSION

  1. Water based inks provide higher image quality in terms of: definition, chromatic contrast and clarity of the colours
  2. Water based inks assure a better alignment between the design phase and the production phase.
  3. Water based inks provide better results especially with high ink density products and covering substrates (monoporosa and double-fired).

Inks - Dyes, Pigments & Acrylic Inks - What Should I Choose?

If you are familiar with my work you will notice that I like to use Dr. Ph. Martin&#;s Radiant Concentrated Watercolours a lot! But I&#;ve recently been experimenting with some new materials; acrylic inks, pigment inks and dyes.

I typically use inks to create a watercolour style and all of the inks have different characteristics. This blog post will break down some of the differences between those inks and assist you when deciding what to use for your next project.

Let&#;s start with my favourite - Dr. Ph. Martin&#;s Radiant Concentrated Watercolours. These are actually dye-based inks and give you an extremely bright and vivid look. They are not the only dye-based inks available but they do come in an extensive range of colours. Ecoline also have some lovely colour options as well and there are other lesser-known brands available too. Dye-based inks and indeed all inks vary in consistency and colour from brand to brand so it&#;s worth noting that just purchasing a dye-based ink from one company won't produce the same results as purchasing from another, so it&#;s worth experimenting to see what you personally like.

So what are some of the characteristics of dye-based ink?
